The average age of a child sexual abuse victim is 8 years old (source: CJC data) Experts estimate that one in four girls and one in six boys are sexually abused before their eighteenth birthday. (source:Darkness to Light)

Statistics indicate that you may know, or be related to, a victim of child sexual abuse. One in four children will experience sexual abuse during their childhood. Children can heal from most physical injuries caused by abuse, but the emotional scars can last a lifetime. Immediate intervention by trained experts has demonstrated a remarkable improvement in the emotional adjustment of child victims. Unfortunately, some crimes against children may be debilitating. Shaken Baby Syndrome often leaves permanent damage to infants and may cause blindness or other permanent disabilities. Children who experience serious physical injuries may require extensive medical care. Children, who witness murders or domestic violence, may require long term counseling to cope with the emotional devastation. The Children’s Justice Center serves a vital role in advocating for the best interest of children to ensure their protection, to promote justice, and link to families with quality medical and counseling services.

At the Children’s Justice Center, all of our services are free, at no cost to the child victim or family. This would not be possible without the help of contributions from the community to support programming, child advocacy services, crisis intervention services, parent education materials, and specialized training for investigators. The program was established as a private/public partnership, receiving limited funds from the state legislature. Funding resources are especially important at this time as our caseload continues to rise, with over 3,500 people served annually.

We rely on community donations to support the program. Your tax-deductible contribution would be used wisely to help us provide a safe, comfortable place for our clients to share details about a frightening experience that could possibly change their lives forever. Help us tame the trauma caused by child abuse.
